What are the responsibilities and job description for the Town Engineer position at Town of Acton, MA?
The Town of Acton is seeking applicants for the full-time, benefitted position of the Town Engineer. This position will report directly to the Director of Public Works. The Town Engineer is responsible for managing projects and designing, and improving Acton’s infrastructure—including roads, sidewalks, bridges, stormwater systems, sewer lines, and traffic calming measures.
General Duties and Responsibilities: Coordinates and performs supervisory and administrative work in planning and organizing the activities of the Engineering office. This position is responsible for supervising the Engineering staff.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a minimum of five (5) years of work experience in civil engineering with at least three (3) years of supervisory/managerial experience, including some exposure to project management, construction design, budgeting, and contract administration or equivalent combination of education and experience. Registration as a Professional Engineer in Massachusetts required within one year of hiring. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and the materials, methods and techniques of public works construction.
Preferred Qualifications: Work experience within a municipal public works environment. Soil evaluator license. Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in Massachusetts. Master’s degree in management.
Special Requirements: Valid driver’s license. Massachusetts Certified Public Procurement Training within one (1) year or by the next available training period, whichever comes first. OSHA-10 and OSHA Excavation Competent Person Certifications or able to obtain within one (1) year or by the next available training period, whichever comes first.
Pay Rate: Range $95k to $124k depending on qualifications
Benefits: Hybrid or Staggered work schedule is available after probationary period of 6 months, up to a $425 fitness club reimbursement program (if enrolled in Town Health Insurance plan). Health, Dental, Vision and an attractive pension system are just some of our competitive insurance and benefits, with the town covering 75% of the Health insurance cost.
