The Town of Addison is seeking a visionary, experienced and strategic leader as the Airport Director to oversee the airport’s long-term planning, redevelopment, operations, and real estate portfolio. The Airport Director is responsible for managing the airport’s day-to-day operations in a safe and efficient manner and ensuring governmental compliance. Reporting to the Deputy City Manager, the Airport Director plays a critical role in the airport and Town’s economic growth and vitality.

- Provides strategic leadership, direction, and guidance in operational strategies; evaluates the Airport’s needs, capital improvement program plans, and budgets; and determines Airport priorities and resource requirements.
- Provides leadership to staff; addresses staffing needs and personnel issues; guides and ensures strong work culture.
- Implements Airport policies and directives pursuant to the general direction of the City Manager’s Office.
- Develops and implements long-range vision for the airport, including analyzing operational information, evaluating trends, and developing plans with other Town departments to achieve future goals and growth objectives.
- Oversees the airport real estate portfolio to maximize the performance and value, consistent with the airport’s strategic objectives.
- Develop relationships with aircraft owners and operators in the Dallas Region to attract them to Addison Airport.
- Promotes positive internal and external relationships through meeting and speaking with tenants and public groups regarding airport issues.
- Prepares and presents briefings and analytical proposals to City Manager and City Council.
- Oversees budget preparation for all departmental functions; approves department-wide expenditures; participates in strategic planning, regulatory compliance, and succession planning.
- Prepares strategic and annual operating budget to support airport operations; manages budget.
- Coordinates with funding agencies and ensures airport compliance with FAA and TxDOT rules and regulations.
- Establishes airport operating procedures to ensure compliance with the FAA.
- Working knowledge of FAA Part 139.
- Ensures adherence to EPA, FAA, and TxDOT regulations.
- Coordinates and expedites special projects and studies.
- Develops and implements strategies for airport redevelopment, airport master plan, capital improvement projects, grant funding, and increasing airport revenues.
- Develops and implements airport marketing strategies.
- Develops and/or coordinates aviation policies to provide aviation safety.
- Using gathered operational data to create monthly reports along with other presentations upon request.
- Ability to communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, subordinates, and people to whom service is provided.
- May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of presenting certain Town special events.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, business, or related field; AND
- Seven (7) years’ experience in aviation management; OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- AAAE Certified Member is preferred.
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Must be able to obtain Airport Movement Area certification within two (2) weeks of hire.
- Clear Criminal Background check and pre-employment drug screen.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of FAA regulations pertaining to public use airport facilities.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
- Knowledge of project management practices.
- Knowledge of budget development and management practices and principles.
- Skilled in preparing clear and concise presentations, reports, and correspondence.
- Skilled in working safely with hand and power tools and equipment.
- Skilled in presenting information to groups of varying size with strong communication skills.
- Skilled in developing short- and long-range plans.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment. Work is generally performed indoors but may involve limited exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
This is an exempt position; incumbent will be expected to work whatever hours are necessary to complete responsibilities.
