- The Town is looking to hire two (2) Seasonal Camp Leads for the Addison Athletic Club's upcoming Camp Season!Bonus Opportunities:
- Sign-On Bonus: $300.00 if the employee starts on or before June 2, 2025.
- Referral Bonus: $50.00 for Town employees if they refer a candidate who is successfully onboarded into a Seasonal position with the Addison Athletic Club.
- Retention Bonus: $250.00 if the employee works through the last day of camp.
Under the direct supervision of the Children’s Recreation Coordinator, the Summer Camp Lead plays a critical leadership role in fostering the growth and development of children (Ages 6 -12) at the Addison Athletic Club (AAC) Summer Camp. This position requires a high level of experience and expertise in childcare, emotional regulation tactics, activity facilitation, supervision of both campers and staff, and is representative of the philosophy, mission and goals of the AAC and its Summer Camp Program.
- Provide direct supervision and mentorship to Camp Counselors, ensuring they are effectively engaging campers, managing behaviors, and facilitating activities in alignment with camp policies.
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing engaging and age appropriate camp activities including arts and crafts, sports, swimming, field trips, and outdoor activities. Adapt activities as needed to accommodate the emotional, physical, and social needs of campers.
- Serve as a resource for counselors when handling behavioral or emotional challenges among campers. Implement strategies to promote self-regulation, teamwork, and conflict resolution, ensuring a positive and inclusive camp environment.
- Respond quickly and effectively to camper needs, incidents, and emergency situations, making clear and confident decisions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants.
- Monitor and enforce all safety protocols, ensuring campers and staff adhere to established guidelines. Assist in emergency preparedness and response, including drills, first aid, and risk assessment of activities.
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, behavioral documentation, and accident reports. Provide daily feedback to the Recreation Coordinator on camper progress, challenges, and staff performance.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for parents and guardians, providing updates on camper experiences, addressing concerns, and fostering a positive relationship with families.
- Ensure daily setup and cleanup of camp areas, manage supplies and equipment, and oversee group transitions and scheduling to maintain structure and organization. Assist in all functions related to the running of the Addison Summer Camp.
- Maintains a neat appearance; wearing an appropriate staff shirt/uniform during daily operations. Attend all required staff trainings, in-services and meetings.
- Responsible for following all policy and guidelines.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Any combination of education, training and work experience equivalent to the completion of high school. Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent majoring in Education, Physical Education, or Recreation is preferred; AND
- Must be at least 18 years of age; AND
- Experience in summer camp, day care, church camp, public recreation, and/or outdoor activities is required. Previous leadership or supervisory experience is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- A valid Texas Driver’s License and a safe driving record.
- Clear Criminal Background check and pre-employment drug screen.
- Must be certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). CPR training will be provided.
- Knowledge of child development, emotional regulation techniques, and behavior management strategies preferred.
- Knowledge of program planning and facilitation in a camp or educational setting preferred.
- Knowledge of decision making in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of basic computer and clerical skills.
- Skilled in supervising and mentoring staff members to foster professional growth and teamwork.
- Skilled in managing and adapting activities to ensure camper engagement and inclusion.
- Skilled in recognizing and addressing potential safety risks and behavioral challenges.
- Skilled in working effectively with children 6-12 years of age.
- Ability to communicate effectively with campers, staff and parents to create a positive camp culture.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Duties involve some exertion which can be strenuous. The noise level in Club may be loud because of racquetball, exercise equipment, and various pumps and appliances. Lifts recreation equipment, furniture, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds and sets up in activity area. Assignments will involve both indoor activities in an air-conditioned building and outdoor games subject to extremes of weather and temperature. Work in an outdoor setting exposed to heat, dust, wind, insects, noxious plants, and snakes. Participate in various sports and recreational activities; ability to lift loaded ice chests and items up to 50 lbs., stoop, walk, bend, run, throw, climb, and swim.
This is a seasonal position for the summer months, averaging 20-40 hours per week. Hours will vary depending upon staffing level and demand for services. Schedule may be modified if department needs arise.
