What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outer Limits Summer Program Director position at Town of Andover?
Under general direction of Youth Services Director, Assistant Director and Programmers; plans, coordinates, conducts, and supervises the activities and operation of a full day summer program for children entering grades 6-9.
The Outer Limits Summer program is for youth entering 6th through 9th grade and is hosted at the Comier Youth Center. Participants will participate in a wide range of enrichment and recreational activities at the Comier Youth Center and frequently takes trips to Pomps Pond, Rec Park, Greater Lawrance Boating Club, various hiking trails and nature reserves and a weekly out of town field trip (Boundless Adventures, Jay Gees, Canobie Lake Park, Water Country, etc.). Outer Limits typically has between 60 and 70 youth per week and is staffed by 9-12 Seasonal Staff members and supported by Full Time AYS staff.

Responsibilities
- Supervises program staff and schedules staff.
- Plans and coordinates a comprehensive program schedule that includes but is not limited to activities such as arts and crafts, games, sports, etc.
- Oversee and supervise program staff members to ensure the children are safe, engaged and enjoying their time at the Outer Limits summer program.
- Instructs program staff in the performance of specific duties.
- Trains program staff in games and activities appropriate to the participants’ age range.
- Prepares daily schedules, records and reports as requested.
- Enforces all regulations pertaining to the health and safety of visitors, parents, staff and participants.
- Interacts with parents and guardians of participants during daily check in, check out and during discipline meetings as needed.
- Coordinate weekly activity schedules and request supplies in a timely manner.
- Responsible for the care and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
- Administers first aid as required.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Applicants must be 21 years of age or older and have two years of experience working with children, preferably in a summer program setting.
- Previous experience in a responsible leadership position.
- Ability to establish an effective working relationship with parents, employees, and the general public.
- Experience in coordinating, planning, organizing, and implementing activities for children is required.
- Certification in CPR/First Aid.
- Emphasis will be placed on ability to develop and implement a variety of creative activities on a consistent basis.
- Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records regarding participants' vital statistics and attendance.
- Ability to work outdoors in summer heat and inclement weather.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or Education preferred
- Possession of a valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
- Identify and respond to hazards.
- Work with different age and skill levels.
- Assist in the case of an emergency.
- Must be able to work outside in extreme conditions (heat/noise, etc.).
- Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of patrons.
