MOTOR EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE WORKER
Hourly Rate Range: $26.54 - $34.00 per hour
40 hours per week

Definition
Semi-skilled light maintenance, routine repairs, and manual work servicing automotive, mechanical and other power equipment; all other related work, as required.
Supervision
Works under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Motor Equipment Repairs. Duties are well defined and limited in scope.
Performs duties following departmental rules, regulations and policies, requiring the ability to complete assigned tasks according to a prescribed time schedule; unusual situations are referred to the supervisor.
Work Environment
Most work is performed in generally loud repair shop conditions, with frequent exposure to exhaust fumes, oil, dust and other airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals; work also involves risk of injury, burns and electrical shock and other hazards associated with working near moving mechanical parts, working with overhead lifts and in confined spaces.
The employee operates standard office equipment, hand tools, light and heavy trucks.
The employee has contact with other town departments, employees and vendors.
Errors could result in costly equipment damage, delay or loss of service, and monetary loss.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

At the direction of the supervisor, orders supplies, stock and parts required by the motor equipment repair unit; receives the delivery of supplies and parts, and reviews invoices and records to ensure that orders are met. Uses fleet maintenance software to perform duties.
Drives to various suppliers to pick up parts and supplies, as needed.
Performs light maintenance and routine repairs on trucks, such as performing oil changes, and changing tires.
Drives heavy equipment during snow emergencies and plows snow.
Performs similar or related work as required, or as situation dictates.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
High school diploma; more than one year, up to including three years of experience in automotive mechanics performing light maintenance, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements
Valid Massachusetts Commercial Driver’s license.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill
Knowledge of the principles, procedures, methods, and techniques involved in the maintenance of public works vehicles and equipment.
Ability to drive heavy and light equipment. Ability to interact in an effective manner with vendors and fellow employees. Ability to maintain records relating to supplies and stock.
Skill in the use of basic automotive repair equipment.
Physical Requirements
Moderate to strenuous physical effort is required to perform duties. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, speak and hear, use hands to operate equipment, reach, stoop, climb and work in confined spaces. The employee is frequently required to lift, move, and/or push items weighing up to 60 pounds. Vision requirements include the ability to read routine documents and operate motor vehicles and other equipment.
