Definition
Skilled administrative work processing Town transactions received from taxpayers and residents, other appointing authorities and town departments received by mail, at the counter, ACH or other electronic transactions ; all other related work, as required.
Supervision
Works under the direction of the Treasurer & Collector of Taxes and under the daily supervision of the Office Manager, in accordance with established methods and procedures. Duties require considerable attention to detail and accuracy.
Work Environment
Performs work in busy office conditions, with frequent interruptions, in close quarters.
The employee operates standard office equipment.
The employee has ongoing contact with the public and other town departments, at the counter, by telephone and electronically.
The employee has access to personal information about taxpayers.
Errors in processing cash could result in monetary loss.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Processes financial transactions received from taxpayers and residents, other appointing authorities and town departments received by mail, at the counter, ACH or other electronic transactions for a variety of taxes, bills and charges and maintains and balances cash drawer.
Responds to routine questions by telephone, in person and electronically; may respond to difficult customer-service issues.
Assists in recording and executing Municipal Lien Certificates in a timely manner.
Performs similar or related work as directed, required, or as situation dictates.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
High school diploma with Associates Degree preferred in accounting or a related field preferred; computer training; one to three years of office or business experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill
Knowledge of office practices and procedures and basic bookkeeping.
Ability to accomplish tasks with accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to learn and operate the integrated accounts receivable system. Mathematical ability. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Customer service skills. Computer skills and ability to learn and use a variety of office accounting and software programs.
Physical Requirements
Minimal physical effort is required to perform duties under typical office conditions. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, speak, hear, and use hands to operate equipment. Vision requirements include the ability to read routine documents and use a computer.
