Position Title: Assistant Treasurer/Collector I
The Town of Auburn is seeking a highly motived, qualified Assistant Treasurer/Collector I to assist the Treasurer/Collector with the statutory duties and responsibilities of the department.
Reporting to the Treasurer Collector, the Assistant Treasurer/Collector I performs highly complex, technical and confidential duties in the operations relating to the Treasurer Collector’s office in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, town policies, bylaws, Massachusetts Department of Revenue regulations and federal law.
Essential Functions:
Assists the Treasurer/Collector in the performance of the following:
· Performs administrative work in financial management, including the custody, disbursement, investment and borrowing of money, tax collection and other municipal revenues.
· Processes payroll and account payables checks, related reports and bank submissions.
· Maintains a system for receipts and expenditures of the town.
· Assists in the collection of real estate, personal property, motor vehicle taxes, trash and sewer bills along with monies from town departments.
· Assists with local and state reporting and reconciliations of cash and taxes receivables
· Performs similar or related work as required, or as directed by the Treasurer/Collector
Education and Experience:
Associates degree and three years of progressively responsible experience in dealing with accounting, finance, public or business administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
· Knowledge of principles and practices of financial management and bookkeeping.
· Ability to communicate effectively in writing with various audiences including public officials, colleagues and the general public.
· Customer Service Skills
· Skill In ERP/Munis accounting software preferred.
· Proficiency with Word Processing, Excel and presentation software.
Licensing/Certifications:
· In accordance with Mass Gen Law Chap 41, Section39A, must be a citizen of the United States and must be bondable.
· A Certified Assistant Treasurer or Collector is preferred or ability to achieve certification status is desirable.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $66,000.00 - $68,000.00 per year
