The Town of Avon is accepting applications for a full-time Recreation Coordinator- Aquatics position with the Town of Avon’s Recreation Department.
The Recreation Coordinator- Aquatics position performs a variety of professional aquatic duties including safeguarding the activities of the patrons of the Avon Recreation Center and assisting the Aquatics Supervisor with managing the aquatics division.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains a strong on deck presence and enforces pool rules and regulations to prevent drowning, injuries or accidents
2. Monitors pool area for patrons in potential danger or those in danger and responds to emergencies with professionalism
3. Interprets and enforces the aquatic’s program policies and procedures in a positive and courteous manner Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents and uses all required safety equipment
4. Follows and implements emergency procedures, uses all required safety equipment and responds to emergencies when appropriate
5. Identifies and recommends improvements in division to ensure functions are efficient and cost effective.
6. Ensures customers have been processed by the Front Desk, with a stamp or some other indication of having checked in
7. Inspects facilities for cleanliness and assist in proper maintenance and sanitary operation of the pool, pool area and locker rooms
8. Monitors and maintains pool filtration system and water chemistry through testing of water samples and adjust chemistry as needed to maintain standards
9. Assists with pool maintenance including but not limited to, backwashing, draining the Jacuzzi, cleaning strainer baskets, cleaning chlorinators, and filling acid barrels
10. Assists with promotional strategies and advertising for all activities
11. Maintains and stores equipment properly
12. Assists with the purchase, replacement and maintenance of equipment used in aquatic programs and operations
13. Assists with scheduling, hiring, training and mentoring part-time staff
14. Assists with creating the Aquatics schedule and confirming group reservations
15. Completes necessary paperwork including attendance and chemical logs, incident reports, and other paperwork as necessary
16. Conducts lifeguard skills audits on a bi-weekly basis

Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, physical education, or related field preferred. Current Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications and a minimum of two (2) years of lifeguard experience required. Water Safety Instructor certification, competitive swimming experience, coaching experience, and previous supervisor experience preferred. Ability to obtain Administering Emergency Oxygen certification within 3 months of hire, Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI) certification within 6 months of hire, Waterfront Lifeguarding within 1 year of hire, and Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) within 1 year of hire.
