We are looking for a responsible, qualified Utility Clerk to perform a variety of clerical tasks. Duties of the Utility Clerk include accepting cash, card, and check payments for multiple utilities, town fees, police fines, and property taxes. The Utility Clerk will also be responsible for answering and directing multiline phone system, dispatching utility work orders, as well as maintaining, opening and closing utility accounts. Utility Clerk responsibilities include, but are not limited to, cash handling, balancing multiple cash drawers daily, preparing reports and maintaining appropriate filing systems. The ideal candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to organize and maintain the Utility Office using tools like MS Office Suite, electronic calculators & other office equipment. If you have previous experience as a Utility Clerk and have familiarity with municipal government software, we’d like to meet you. Ultimately, a successful Utility Clerk should ensure the efficient and smooth day-to-day operation of our utility office.
Responsibilities
- Answer and direct multi-line phone calls
- Accept, process and post daily payments into appropriate software systems
- Balancing multiple cash drawers daily
- Preparing bank deposits
- Write and distribute email, correspondence memos, customer forms and faxes
- Maintain a detailed filing system
- Update and maintain office policies and procedure
- Provide general support to customers
- Act as the point of contact for internal and external clients
- Provide conflict management
Skills
- Experience with multiline phone systems
- Proven skills in cash handling, payment intake, and cash drawer balancing
- Knowledge of office management systems and procedures
- Working knowledge of office equipment, like printers, fax machines and electronic calculators
- Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS Word, in particular)
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
- Attention to detail and problem solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
- High School degree; additional qualification as a Utility Clerk will be a plus

Pay: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour
