Job Description
Assists Harbormaster to patrol town waters and ensure the safety of vessels and persons using town waters, harbors and facilities; assists with administrative and maintenance duties; all other work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree (maritime-related field preferred); with more than five years’ experience in a related maritime field, boating experience in all weather conditions, knowledge of rescue operations, knowledge of maritime laws, regulations and practices, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be able to respond to emergency calls for service within a time frame of 30 minutes. CPR and First Responder certification. Valid Class D driver’s license. Mass Certified Harbormaster Training desired. Must be able to complete harbormaster training as prescribed in MGL Ch 102,
Knowledge of marina, harbor and waterway regulations and proper departmental procedures. General knowledge of Coast Guard regulations and procedures. Knowledge of marine rescue operations. Ability to maintain accurate records and produce timely and meaningful reports. Ability to work tactfully with the public in stressful situations. Ability to tow trailers and boats. Ability to swim. Ability to operate power and hand tools. Ability to perform strenuous physical duties under adverse weather conditions and situations. Demonstrated skill and knowledge in boat handling. Good motor and coordination skills. Good communications and computer skills. Must be able to adapt to stressful work environment while maintaining situational awareness.
