ENGINEERING DESIGNER, DPW Administration & Technical Support

Professional, highly technical and responsible administrative work in designing, drafting, and producing construction documents (plans and specifications) and as-built record drawings for utility, roadway, marine, and other horizontal projects. Performs a variety of duties related to the design, construction inspection, and project management of Town horizontal and marine assets projects. Performs research and analysis of information, documents existing conditions, assists in survey and survey data importing, produces AutoCAD documentation, and assists staff with drafting functions; all other related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Formal education / degree in AutoCAD design, Engineering, GIS, or a related field preferred, with a Bachelor’s Degree the most desirable.
  • Over seven years of work experience designing horizontal projects using AutoCAD.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction and construction practices, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Qualifications :

  • Class D driver’s license required.
  • Thorough knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and of the materials, methods, and techniques of public works construction.
  • Knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations governing construction, wastewater and water treatment and conveyance, and water quality.
  • Technical knowledge and experience in design, construction, and inspection problems commonly encountered in municipal engineering activities.
  • Proven ability to design large-scale complex projects.
  • Ability to interpret and follow engineering and architectural plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspect construction projects and collect measurements from the field.
  • Ability to deal appropriately and effectively with contractors and a large variety of people.
  • Ability to work in a close-knit, team environment.
  • Highly skilled in the use of computers including word processing, spreadsheets, database, PowerPoint, CAD, and engineering design software.
  • Team-oriented attitude.
