TAX ASSESSOR

The Town of Barrington, RI is seeking a knowledgeable and detailed oriented full-time

TAX ASSESSOR. Under the direction of the Finance Director the Tax Assessor will be responsible for the essential assessing and property appraisal process for the Town of Barrington, to ensure fair and equitable taxation. Will conduct property appraisals and assessments for residential, commercial, and industrial properties; will also work to manually inspect properties and apply or appropriate the tax amount to be levied for each parcel based upon the assessed value; will prepare, maintain, and certify the town’s tax roll.

Ideal candidate: Will be responsible for determining property values, maintaining accurate assessment records and applying local and state tax laws effectively. Must be knowledgeable and experienced with real and tangible property valuation practices and procedures, as well as laws and regulations pertinent to the position. Must establish a uniform and equitable system for assessing all property in the Town. Will send notice of assessments and taxes to property owners and prepare tax maps and land value maps. Also responsible for the quality of conducting the revaluation of all town property in accordance with State guidelines.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Business Administration, Finance or related field. Must have at least five (5) years of tax assessing experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functional of the position. Must be a Rhode Island Certified Assessor or obtain certification within two (2) years of appointment; experience working with GIS mapping systems, preferred; knowledge of abatements and exemption programs preferred.

Salary range: $85,000- $95,000 -annual salary- will commensurate based on qualifications and experience. Full Benefit package available
