General Definition of Work
This position will perform basic skills using a variety of heavy construction equipment for tasks related to asphalt paving and general street maintenance. This position will assists with snow removal operations and seasonal collection services.
Shift:
Spring Shift:
[April 1st - September 1st] Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday, 6:30 am - 5:00 pm
Fall Shift:
[September 2nd - March 31st] Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

- Heavy Equipment operation
- General labor using hand tools and small equipment
- Concrete construction and finishing
- Asphalt paving and repairs
- Storm/sewer drain installation and maintenance
- Carpentry
- Welding and metal fabrication
- Dump truck and snow play operation
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Skilled in the operation of heavy equipment and have knowledge of standard construction practices and principles
- Ability to place and finish concrete
- Thorough knowledge of VDOT work zone requirements and the ability to safely work in and around the roadway
- Skill in the use of various hand tools and construction equipment
- Ability to operate a dump truck with snow plow during snow removal operations
Education and Experience
A High School Diploma or GED certification is required, as well as a minimum of four year’s related construction experience
Special Requirements
A valid Virginia Commercial Driver’s License – Class B and an excellent driving record are required
Physical Requirements
Qualified applicants must possess each of the following:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly
- Ability to work in a crouched position for extended periods of time
- Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions
- Ability to effectively communicate with the public and other employees
This work requires:
- Regular exertion of up to 50 pounds of force
- Frequent exertion of up to 100 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force
