MEDIA RELATIONS & COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
34.12 hourly (20 to 25 hours weekly)
This position has a 9-step hourly salary range ($34.12 to $42.72)
Must be available to work occasionally on evenings and weekends
Under the guidance and general direction of the Director of Strategic Communications & Government Affairs, this position is responsible for assisting with providing open and transparent communications to our neighbors in an efficient and effective manner. This position involves developing and implementing communication strategies, creating content, managing social media platforms, and assisting with public affairs initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, a keen understanding of media landscapes, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.Promotes awareness and understanding of town services, policies, projects and issues to community neighbors, businesses and community leaders. The position will also assist in updating and maintaining website content to ensure it is current and relevant. At times, assist in promoting events through various communication channels. Support the planning and execution of events, including logistics, marketing materials, and communication with attendees.
Essential Job Functions :

- Works in close collaboration with the Directorand Assistant Directorof Strategic Communications & Government Affairs in providing direction and guidance to achieve the office's long and short-range goals and objectives.
- Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust and respect
- Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation and communication.
- With input and guidance from the Director / Assistant Director, develop and design online and print communications materials, brochures, presentations, newsletters, annual reports, and other collateral and presentation materials.
- Make artistic layouts independently under general supervision and within brand guidelines
- Create and maintain an electronic library of photos, data visualizations and other communications-related elements and templates.
- Conceptualizes and writes creative posts across all social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other accounts.
- Demonstrated ability to run or contribute to social media campaigns, and increasing social media audiences. Graphic design and / or website design experience (in platforms such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva).
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Functions :
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science or closely related field and three (3) years of professional experience in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science or closely related field or any equivalent combination of education, training and work experience. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and have a reliable vehicle.
Special Requirements : Experience with local government and possess an understanding of governmental policies, structure and politics is preferred. Experience with computer software including MS Office suite programs including desktop publishing and printers. Digital advertising experience is desirable
