The Town of Breckenridge Recreation Department is seeking a dedicated and customer service oriented individual for the position of Certified Ice Hockey Official. The incumbent in this position is responsible for the design, instruction, and oversight of programs and services; and provides assistance to Recreation Attendants/Recreation Specialist I's. This involves maintaining knowledge of specific methodologies or practices for appropriate participant/employee education and utilizing appropriate techniques and progressions in order to ensure a quality product. Rec. Specialist Hockey Officials possess a combination of knowledge, skills, experience, training, education, certification, or licensure that enable them to teach skills and provide an appropriate level of leadership on the ice.
Individuals in this position are responsible for officiating adult ice hockey games for the Town of Breckenridge at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena. Hockey Officials are responsible for ensuring the safety of players and participants by calling penalties and violations in a timely manner and in accordance to USA Hockey and Town of Breckenridge Adult Hockey League rules, conducting physical inspection of the ice surface, goals, nets, timing and scoring device and surrounding areas to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition and reviewing score sheets/making recommendations for player discipline based on game infractions. Officials monitor behavior, play and actions of players before, on-ice/during and after the game to maintain safety values, hockey rules, sportsmanship and general protocol. Officials must intercede in player/official, player/play and player/spectator disputes and activities on the ice, in the arena and on Stephen C. West Ice Arena premises appropriately, professionally, timely and by using the tools and mechanics of hockey refereeing. Rules of play are overseen and/or enforced in a manner reflecting positively on the sport, the ice facility and the Town of Breckenridge hockey programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have at least two (2) or more years of hockey playing experience.
- Must possess excellent skating skills.
- Must have demonstrated knowledge of USA Hockey rules via work history and/or playing experience.
- Must be able to handle stressful situations in a tactful, professional manner while communicating effectively and courteously.
- Must have one to two (1-2) years of customer service experience.
- To qualify for this position, the candidate or employee must pass a criminal background check.
- Basic CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications required within 60 day of hire.
- Preventing Disease Transmission (PDT) required within 60 days of hire.
- USA Hockey-(Level 1, 2, 3, or 4) or CHA Officiating Certification.
- One to two (1-2) years of ice hockey officiating experience upper level youth and/or competitive high school/adult games.
- One (1) or more years of customer service experience involving youth/adult hockey programs.
- One (1) or more years experience playing hockey at the high school or college level.
WORK SCHEDULE
Primary shifts for this position generally include Sunday – Friday evenings, from 5:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. (schedule varies based on leagues). Individuals in this position must be flexible in terms of availability; and may on occasion be required to work other shifts as needed, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
