What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Instructor - Summer Seasonal position at Town of Breckenridge?
The individual(s) in this position are responsible for working with children/youth at the Breckenridge Recreation Center, primarily ages 2 months – 12 years old. The duties will primarily involve supervising children ensuring positive interaction, maintaining even control and resolving disciplinary problems, planning and leading camper activities and ensuring children/youth are engaged and participating fully.
Youth Instructors are also responsible for interacting with the campers and parents, being accountable for the campers at all times, and operating within State Licensing requirements for the BMC Summer Camp program. Additional responsibilities for this position include adhering to proper check-in and checkout procedures, providing excellent customer service and responding to phone and in-person inquires, and supervising children in the Recreation Center while providing a fun and safe experience. This position may also be responsible for leading games and activities, providing snacks, assisting children in the restroom or changing diapers, cleaning and sanitizing the work area, and other duties as assigned.

- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High School diploma or equivalent required, or must be currently enrolled in High School.
- Must have previous experience working with children.
- To qualify for this position, the candidate or employee must pass a criminal background check.
- Basic CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications are required within 60 days of hire.
- Preventing Disease Transmission (PDT) required within 60 days of hire.
- A valid Colorado driver's license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record is required.
- Highly qualified candidates would have experience working with youth ages two (2) months to twelve (12) years.
- One (1) or more years of customer service experience involving youth participants and communications with their parents/guardians preferred.
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- College degree in early childhood education, elementary education, special education, family and child development, child psychology or a subject in the human service field preferred.
SENSITIVITY STATUS
Because the Town's Recreation Department positions may involve direct contact with children, the Town requires that the incumbent in this position must have a clear criminal history that bears on their fitness to have responsibility for the safety and well-being of children.
WORK SCHEDULE
Primary shifts for this position include Mondays - Fridays 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., up to 40 hours per week.
