Job Description
The Town of Brewster seeks qualified candidates for the position of Water Operator. This position is responsible for performing skilled and unskilled manual labor and performs technical water maintenance duties for the Water Department.
Under the direction of the Water Department Foreman the Water Operator will assist with the inspection, maintenance, and operation of the Town’s water systems. Repairs water main leaks, responds to emergency calls regarding water main leaks and related issues; performs hydrant maintenance and repairs and ensures adequate water pressure of hydrants. Monitor for system issues, investigates problems at treatment facilities, determine the source of the issue and reports on issues and possible solutions. Participants in rotating weekend duty inspecting facilities to ensure proper working order.
High School diploma with a minimum of two years’ experience in the public water supply field, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Drinking Water License Distribution Level 1 and Treatment Level 1 license required. Cross Connection Survey Test license or Distribution level 2 licenses in lieu of Cross Connect license. Hoisting 2A or 2B license required or ability to obtain hoisting license in first six months of employment. The ideal candidate is a team player with an interest in the municipal water industry. This is a full-time 40 hour a week position covered under the Town’s Service Employees Internation Union, with a pay range of $28.38 - $34.91 per hour, starting pay dependent on licenses, qualifications, and experience. Excellent benefits package includes paid time off, paid training, health insurance, and retirement benefits.
