POSITION DESCRIPTION
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Elder Affairs Director plans, administers, and oversees a thriving municipal senior center, serving as the community focal point for senior programs and services. This role ensures the development and delivery of high-quality programs that meet the evolving needs of Bridgewater’s senior population. The Director is responsible for fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for seniors by providing opportunities for social interaction, lifelong learning, health and wellness activities, and essential support services. Additionally, the position involves advocacy for the senior community, developing partnerships with local organizations, and ensuring that Bridgewater remains an age-friendly community where seniors can thrive.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Develop, implement, and oversee programs and services related to social services, transportation, recreation, meals, legal services, and health clinics.
· Manage the daily operations and maintenance of the Senior Center.
· Administer the department’s budget, financial operations, payroll, purchasing, and grant funding.
· Seek and manage grant opportunities from sources such as the Formula Grant, CDBG, private foundations, and Title III.
· Oversee communications, including newsletters, social media updates, and public relations efforts.
· Serve as the Town’s liaison to the Elder Affairs Commission, charitable organizations, and community groups.
· Ensure compliance with state and local regulations and maintain partnerships with external agencies.
· Attend relevant conferences, public hearings, and professional development opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
I. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Strong leadership, planning, and organizational skills.
· Ability to assess senior needs and implement effective programs.
· Experience managing budgets, grants, and financial operations.
· Excellent communication and advocacy skills.
· Proficiency in office technology, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
· Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and stakeholders.
II. Experience and Training Guidelines
Required: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience and Training
· Bachelor’s degree in social work, Gerontology, Human Relations, Public Administration, or a related field.
· Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience working with seniors.
· At least three (3) years of management experience.
· Familiarity with elder service networks, local/state laws, and human service programs.
· Valid state driver’s license.
· CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
· CORI/SORI certification for volunteer screenings.
· Preferred certifications: SHINE, Defibrillator Training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Primarily an indoor office setting with occasional outdoor activities and community events.
· Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
· Requires occasional evening and weekend availability for meetings and events.
