POSITION NARRATIVE:

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, non-exempt position with overtime, and some weekends required. Schedule may vary according to the needs of the department in different seasons. Work involves light carpentry and general repairs to facilities and grounds, grounds maintenance, cleaning of buildings and bathrooms, painting, snow removal by shovel and snow blower, work with chemical solvents for cleaning and floor refinishing, small machine operation and maintenance, placing and removing flags during holidays and driving a pick-up truck. Serves as call-out person for all town buildings.

ROUTINE ACTIONS AND FOLLOWING THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE PROCEDURES ASSIGNED TO THE POSITION TASKS.

___ DECISION MAKING RELATES TO INTERPRETTING POLICIES AND PROCEDURES AND APPLYING THOSE TO THE TASKS OF THE POSITION.

___ DECISION MAKING INCLUDES RECOMMENDING POLICY AND AMENDING PROCEDURES TO IMPROVE THE EFFICIENCY OF TASK COMPLETION.

SUPERVISION:

This position is supervised by the Public Services Director.

EXAMPLES OF WORK (These are examples only and not meant to be the complete listing.)

Snow removal at Municipal Complex, Town Hall, Annex, and Ice Rink.

Scrape, flood, and general ice rink maintenance.

General cleaning of Town owned facilities.

Build signs for Town owned facilities.

Prep ball fields; mow and line fields.

Prep parks; rake, mow, mulch.

Maintain town gardens.

Prep beaches: rake and remove misc. debris.

Install, remove, and maintain swim buoy lines at town beaches.

Maintain buildings; light repairs, carpentry, painting, electrical and plumbing not requiring a licensed person.

Put up and take down seasonal decorations.

Cut wood with chainsaw.

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:

Knowledge of general carpentry, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, and custodial work, small engine operation and maintenance. Knowledge of how to safely handle chemical solvents. Ability to interact with public. Ability to read, understand and carry out both oral and written instructions with minimal supervision.

The ability to work in cold condition outside; shovel snow, run snow blower, sand sidewalk areas around Town owned facilities.

General outdoor maintenance.

The ability to scrape and flood Ice Rink.

The ability to rake and mulch parks in spring.

The ability to operate tractor, mower, and trimmers.

The ability to rake and clean beach areas, clean beach bathhouses.

The ability to lift 40 lb. bag concrete, sand, or lime.

The ability to operate equipment: chainsaw, compound miter saw, skill saw, and general hand tools.

The ability to install swim lines at beaches, move anchors for lines.

The ability to climb a ladder to 10’ to put up and take down holiday decorations.

Must possess Class C license.

The ability to use a 10lb sledge to drive stakes

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

General handyman with background in landscaping is ideal. Small engine training and maintenance. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
