Position Overview :
As a Seasonal Urban Park Ranger, you'll be the friendly face that ensures the safety, stewardship, and enjoyment of Brookline's parks and open spaces. You will patrol various areas, assist park visitors, and support daily maintenance efforts to preserve the beauty and functionality of these cherished community spaces. Whether you're engaging with parkgoers, maintaining trails, or overseeing permitted events, you'll be instrumental in creating an exceptional outdoor experience for all who visit.
Key Responsibilities :
- Patrol & Safety : Conduct vehicle, foot, or other patrols throughout parks and recreation areas to promote safety, protect Town assets, and educate park users on rules and regulations. This includes overseeing the Green Dog (off-leash) Program and activities like athletic events and private parties.
- Visitor Engagement : Serve as a friendly and knowledgeable resource for park visitors by answering questions, providing information about facilities, policies, and activities. You may also assist with staffing park events and programs.
- Routine Maintenance : Perform routine landscape and maintenance tasks to keep public areas, including picnic areas, pathways, restrooms, and pavilions in top condition. This includes cleaning, stocking supplies, and ensuring the spaces remain welcoming.
- Environmental Stewardship : Assist with trail maintenance and improvements in nature sanctuaries and passive parks. Implement invasive species management strategies to help protect Brookline's natural landscapes.
- Wildlife Management : Help manage the resident and migratory Canada goose population at various sites by addressing environmental impact, including cleaning up goose droppings and repairing damage.
