If hired, the employment will begin on the first day of Camp Orientation and end on the last day of camp. Any exceptions to this timeline, such as alternative start or end dates, must be communicated and agreed upon in writing before the job offer is extended.
Camp Orientation: May 12 – 14, 2025
End of Camp: July 25, 2025
Normal Camp Hours: Monday – Friday; 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Principal Function: The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for assisting with all activities and aspects relating to the operation of summer camps for the Parks and Recreation Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Build relationships with campers through daily conversation and quality interactions.
- Help campers develop social and conflict resolution skills and create healthy friendships.
- Provide opportunities for campers to participate successfully and enjoy all aspects of the camp experience.
- Be a trusted adult figure who is consistent, fair, and follows through when redirecting behavior.
- Organize, lead, and manage groups and individuals in planned activities.
- Help to keep the camp a safe environment by adhering to all safety protocols and camp procedures.
- Assume responsibility for the health and well-being of the campers entrusted to your care.
- Actively supervise campers during all aspects of the day, including arrival, departure, field trips, meals, play, and rest times.
- Actively participate in all planning and in-service sessions.
- Lead large or small groups in planned activities.
- Identify and respond to individual camper needs.
- Support other staff in teaching, leading activities, and offsite trips.
