Camp Orientation: May 12 – 14, 2025
End of Camp: July 25, 2025
Normal Camp Hours: Monday – Friday; 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Principal Function: The Head Camp Counselor is responsible for leading a designated group of campers in a variety of structured activities during summer camp. This role demands strong leadership skills, enthusiasm, and the ability to create a positive and safe camp environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Lead daily activities: Take charge of your group, organizing and implementing specific activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, and outdoor activities that align with the camp’s theme and objectives.
- Build relationships: Establish strong rapport with campers through daily interaction, fostering trust and encouraging positive social interactions and friendships.
- Ensure safety: maintain a safe environment by strictly following safety protocols and camp procedures and promptly addressing safety concerns or behavioral issues.
- Create engaging experiences: Design and lead engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote teamwork, creativity, and skill development while ensuring all campers can participate and enjoy.
- Monitor camper well-being: Actively supervise campers throughout the day, including transitions between activities, meals, field trips, and rest times, to ensure their health and well-being.
- Support social development: Model positive behavior and guide discussions during group interactions to help campers develop social skills and conflict resolution abilities.
- Communicate effectively: collaborate with other camp staff to coordinate activities and maintain a cohesive program while providing assistance and support as needed.
- Participate in training: engage actively in training sessions and staff meetings to enhance your leadership skills and contribute ideas for improving camp programs.
- All other duties the Youth Services Manager and/or their designee assign.
Supervisory Participation and Control: This position has supervisory responsibilities of staff and camp participants.
