POSITION SUMMARY
This position reports to the Board of Trustees.
This position inspects and investigates complaints to verify compliance with adopted codes and ordinances of the Town to safeguard public health, safety and general welfare.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.
1. Receives, records, and investigates complaints regarding potential violations of municipal codes, ordinances, standards, and health and safety regulations; documents violations by securing photographs, writing reports, and recording other pertinent data; researches ownership records, prior complaints, municipal codes and ordinances, and state regulations to establish whether a violation has occurred.
2. Primary point of contact for all residential and commercial proposals and projects in the Town of Calera.
3. Authorized to recruit and facilitate the location of commercial and residential projects within the Town of Calera.
4. Enforces Town ordinances; issues warning or citations for violations of ordinances.
5. Reviews appropriate town ordinances and recommends updates.
6. Makes recommendations on zoning, rezoning and variances.
7. Surveys (on foot and/or by vehicle) nuisance conditions and code violations.
8. Initiates contacts with residents, business representatives and other parties to explain the nature of incurred violations and establish compliance requirements with municipal codes, ordinances and community standards.
9. Prepares notices of violation or noncompliance and citations according to applicable codes and regulations; issues letters to property to abate fire and public safety hazards and public nuisances.
10. Coordinates and conducts follow-up abatement procedures including the preparation of additional correspondence, site visits, and communication with property owners if applicable; conducts follow-up investigations to ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances;
11. Meets with Town staff regarding complaints; coordinates follow up activities as needed.
12. Prepare non-compliance case information for legal action when requested. Testifies in court or administrative hearings as needed.
13. Provides information to violators, witnesses, and the general public, business community and other government agencies regarding codes, laws and ordinances; respond to questions, complaints and inquiries.
14. Maintains files and records related to citations and violations; prepares written reports, memoranda and correspondence.
15. Photographs nuisance conditions and code violations.
16. Responds to requests for assistance.
17. Assists public with questions regarding lost and adoptive animals; advises public on appropriate policies and procedures; releases animals from shelter for adoption or reclaim.
18. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of safety codes, related laws and ordinances and building standards. Must be a Certified Building Inspector.
2. Knowledge of Sewer and Water Systems. Must be certified to inspect sewer and water projects for new construction.
3. Knowledge of the principles and practices of code compliance programs.
4. Knowledge of blueprints, layouts, construction plans, parcel maps, and zoning maps.
5. Skill in identifying technical and operational problems and recommending appropriate corrective actions.
6. Ability and skill to make appropriate decisions quickly.
7. Ability and skill to accurately interpret individuals’ mental and physical conditions.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· High School Diploma/equivalent
· Certified Building Inspector
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Previous work experience in code enforcement or related land use experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
· Must possess a valid Driver’s license.
Completion of the following certification upon hire:
· Obtain certification as a Certified Oklahoma Code Enforcement Officer within one year of hire.
