What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Inspector/DPW Director position at Town of Campton?
A diverse community at the gateway to the White Mountains seeks a full-time Building Inspector/DPW Director. This position will perform highly responsible administrative and professional work related to building, housing, zoning requirements, and public works, including oversight of public buildings, grounds, highways, streetlights, and bridges.
This position will perform their duties independently under the supervision of the Town Administrator and Board of Selectmen.
Building Inspector responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Coordinating with the Planning and Zoning Coordinator
· Permitting including, accepting review and issuance
· Perform required inspections (building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, etc.)
· Issue of Certificate of Occupancy for finished projects
· Assist and prepare the budget for the department
· Attending Planning and Zoning meetings
· Code enforcement, including enforcing building, health, zoning, and environmental
· Comfortable issuing compliance letters for unpermitted structures, junk yards, and signs
· Other duties as assigned
DPW Director responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Organizing and coordinating staff to achieve the highest level of service for all Town buildings
· Assist the BOS, Town Administrator, and Road Agent in preparing project bid specifications, including purchase of vehicles and heavy equipment.
· Maintenance of town buildings, including landscaping
· Coordinating all street lighting through Eversource
· Town tree maintenance
· Provide excellent communication with BOS, Town Administrator, Highway Department, contractors, vendors, and taxpayers.
· Other duties as assigned
The candidate will know NH building and health regulatory codes, be proficient in current building practices, and understand local ordinances and regulations. Familiarity with planning and zoning principles, wetlands, other environmental issues, and applicable land use matters is preferred. Understanding highway maintenance and public works projects, including work hazards and safety protocols. Skilled in operating and maintaining equipment and tools for buildings and highways. Ability to use computers, hand and power tools, and minor repairs. The candidate shall be skilled in written and interpersonal communications, have excellent record-keeping, and collaborate effectively with local engineers, contractors, and citizens.
Requirements:
History of fieldwork and project completion is accepted. High school diploma required. Preferred minimum qualifications is an associate’s degree with a major in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field or experience sufficient to understand the diverse objectives and functions of the position, usually interpreted to require five years of progressively responsible fieldwork, administrative and supervisory experience in a municipality or any equivalent combination of education or experience which demonstrates possession of the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certification in IBC or obtaining it within one (1) year of hire is required.
The annual salary for this position is $86,000. Benefits include Dental, Health, and Life Insurance. NH Retirement System. Generous leave time.
