The Town of Carlisle seeks applicants for a full-time Facilities Technician. The purpose of this position is to coordinate daily operations of town building repair and maintenance including janitorial, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building envelope, energy conservation, masonry, carpentry, security, HVAC and other building systems as well as management of building construction/repair activities; performs all other related work as required.
This position works 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Non-union pay scale starting at $31.16/hour, hiring range DOQ. Excellent benefits including insurance, participation in the Town’s retirement plan, and paid time off.

Facilities Technician Job Description
Position Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to coordinate daily operations of town building repair and maintenance including janitorial, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building envelope, energy conservation, masonry, carpentry, security, HVAC and other building systems as well as management of building construction/repair activities; performs all other related work as required.
Supervision:
Supervision Scope: Independently performs building maintenance functions under own initiative and with considerable independent judgment required as to methods or procedures.
Supervision Received: Reports directly on a day-to-day basis to the Facilities Director.
Supervision Given: None.
Job Environment:
Work is performed under some unpleasant conditions with exposure to dust and dirt, cleaning chemical fumes, extremes of heat and cold, and outdoor weather conditions.
Makes frequent contacts with other town officials, staff, vendors, and the general public; contacts involve discussing very routine information. Good interpersonal skills essential.
Errors could result in damage to buildings and equipment, injury to self and others, and create some hazards to safety.
Essential Functions:

· Responds to emergencies at Town facilities as necessary. Responsible for performing all emergency and standard maintenance activities as well as major systems maintenance and repair related to buildings (e.g. HVAC, hot water).
· Minor plumbing (repairs only).
· Major and minor mechanical repairs of all types.
· Preventative maintenance projects.
· Reports to the Facilities Director or designee as part of the day-to-day operations.
· Day to day interactions with department heads and maintenance vendors to ensure the most effective use of resources when maintenance services are needed, consistent with the overall maintenance program.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge: Familiarity with NFPA, OSHA, DEP, Building Codes, ADA, Energy Codes, LEED, etc. and other government regulations as it relates to buildings and systems are desired.
Ability: Ability to operate independently with little daily supervision. Ability to analyze and evaluate the progress of contractors and the status of building and equipment repairs. Ability to perform plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work in the maintenance and repairs of buildings.
Skill: MA License in one of the major trades (Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, etc.) is desirable.
MA Unrestricted Construction Supervisors License is desirable.

Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for long periods of time. Work overhead, work in tight areas, work off of ladder, work off of scaffolds, work at floor level. Pulling of heavy wire through piping and work safely from ladders and lifting equipment to 50 feet above ground level. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength. Ability to operate and use mechanical equipment and tools. Ability to perform general and/or specific maintenance work using varied mechanical skills. Ability to operate and use various tools and equipment in relation to the maintenance of buildings. Ability to safely and properly use power tools and equipment. Ability to drive motor vehicle. Vision and hearing correctable to normal ranges.
