The purpose of this class is to perform the job of a Seasonal Recreation Assistant in an efficient and effective manner by observing department operational procedures, be prepared daily to provide courteous and professional customer service, and to perform related duties as assigned. This class works according to set procedures under close supervision of the Recreation Superintendent. This position carries additional responsibility related to interaction with public and decision making requirements.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assist the Program Supervisor in successful implementation of the day camp programs of the Parks and Recreation departmentParticipate in the planning and training phase of summer camp activitiesGreet camp participants and parents in a positive and upbeat mannerTrack activities and games that need to be introduced during summer campEnsure that all rules are defined prior to the beginning of summer campProvide campers and parents with information about camp schedulePerform emergency procedures such as minor first aid and CPRConsistently apply appropriate behavior management techniques to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all participantsEnsure that all camp sites are organized and kept free of litterBe prepared to facilitate team building activities, environmental education, outdoor leadership activities and other outdoor recreation education experiences.Communicate with parents / guardians of young participants to provide feedback about camp experienceCommunicate regularly with the program supervisor or designee to provide updates regarding programming, camp activities and any pertinent information regarding participantsAssist with Town Special Events (such as Fireworks, Family Night, Movies at the Lake) as needed.Regularly and predictably attends workPerform other duties as assigned

Education High School Diploma or GED equivalencyExperience Prior practical experience in recreation and sports programmingSpecial RequirementsCPR, AED and / or First Aid certifications, preferredImmunization against bloodborne pathogens is indicated for this position North Carolina Drivers License, preferred
