What are the responsibilities and job description for the DOWNTOWN PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER- TEMPORARY position at Town of Cary?
Located on 7 acres in the vibrant center of Cary, the Downtown Cary Park offers an artistic landscape, where beautifully distinguished structures and inviting spaces create the perfect backdrop for any event, from charming gatherings to grand celebrations.
Our team is seeking Downtown Park Maintenance Workers to perform routine work in the care and maintenance of the Downtown Cary Park, including clearing pathways, cleaning surfaces, and removing trash. This role will also provide generalized support for program, production, and operational staff and will provide exemplary customer service to park visitors.
In addition to performing ongoing maintenance work, Downtown Park Maintenance Workers will provide support for weekly events such as Saturday Farmer’s Markets, monthly events such as Final Fridays and Night Market, and concerts and specialized events such as the Pimento Cheese Festival.
Work will require a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
- Removes silt and debris from flat surfaces using ride on sweeper or blowers
- Cleans windows and exterior glass surfaces on various facilities within the park
- Removes and appropriately disposes of trash, litter, recycling and compostable materials
- Performs visual inspection of restrooms, buildings, and amenities to ensure cleanliness and safety
- Polishes plumbing fixtures in restrooms
- Assists with providing generalized support for program, production, and operational staff
- Provides exemplary guest satisfaction experience through public interaction
- May be asked to respond to other job-related calls for assistance as needed.
- Some knowledge in routine facility maintenance

Education and Experience
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED.
Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:
- Some experience performing special event support.
- Some experience in park, landscape, or facilities maintenance.
Physical Requirements
Work in this class is medium to heavy and requires exposure to the elements such as heat, cold, and rain. The physical ability to lift moderate to heavy items for extended periods is required. The ability to walk and stand for long periods, as well as the ability to reach, stoop, kneel, etc., is also required. Visual acuity is necessary in order to perform custodial and maintenance functions and observe needed repairs.
Special Requirements
Requires a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification, and credit history review) prior to employment.
