Cary is seeking an knowledgeable, energetic, and driven professional who shares our OneCary goal of challenging and reimagining the standard for what local government can be by working collaboratively with others. The Facilities Maintenance Team Lead will work with a crew of landscape professionals, maintenance mechanics, and other Cary employees to provide exceptional quality of life services for our Citizens, visitors and businesses. This position plays a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our Facilities division.

This Facilities Maintenance Team Lead directs a crew in the development, maintenance, and operation of Cary facilities. This individual will lead and coordinate the efforts of building mechanics, landscape teams, athletic maintenance teams, facility attendants, vendors, and contractors at Cary facilities. The ideal candidate possesses well-developed leadership skills, strong technology ability, formal education or training, and/or considerable experience related to this work. Work is performed independently with general supervision from a Facilities Coordinator or Expeditor.

The work of Team Lead may require weekends or flexed schedule. Facilities Management positions are "critical positions", meaning you are required to report to work during adverse weather or other emergency situations, assisting in any capacity necessary to continue Cary operations.

Coordinates and directs a work to ensure proper maintenance of Cary facilities and landscapes;   

Provides input on performance reviews and other personnel actions of crew members;    

Rebuilds, constructs, and maintains facility assets and landscapes;    

Maintains materials supply;    

Directs and participates in the precise mowing and lining of Cary facilities;    

Trains and supervises staff in all aspects of landscaping and facility maintenance;    

Determines the rate of application of fertilizers and herbicides;    

Performs pest management duties;    

Assists with setting up of events;    

Coordinates with non-Cary staff via email, phone or in-person contact;    

Provides technical support; 

Maintains multiple facilities on-site such as fields, disc golf, cross country trails, buildings, comfort stations, playgrounds, greenways, or parks;    

Oversees the routine maintenance of specialty equipment;    

Maintains irrigation systems;    

Participates in work activities;    

Make recommendations concerning budget needs;    

Works with hazardous weather response team for snow, ice, debris removal;    

Performs other job-related tasks as required.  

Thorough knowledge of and ability to plan the work and lead, coordinate, and monitor a work team in facility maintenance and landscaping; 

Thorough knowledge of facility maintenance practices; 

Thorough knowledge of the use and maintenance of specialty equipment; Considerable knowledge of the appropriate safety precautions of the work; 

Thorough knowledge of technology including Microsoft products, email, and Salesforce; 

Ability to work effectively in a team environment; 

Ability to operate specialty equipment; 

Ability to work in a high profile environment; Ability to work with and coordinate with outside teams and organizations; 

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff, contractors and the general public; 

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. 


Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a two-year college or university with a degree in a related field and 3-5 years experience in facility maintenance practices and 1-3 years of direct leadership experience. 

A valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.

Possession of a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with an acceptable driving record 

Pesticide Certification issued by the State of North Carolina (may be obtained within 6 months of hire date) 

National Incident Management System (NIMS) ICS 100 and ICS 700 training/certification required (provided) 

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment  

Salary : $55,765 - $86,445
