This position plays a crucial role in assisting the Operations and Programs Supervisor and Senior Program Assistant in the comprehensive planning, coordination, preparation, and execution of the BEYOND: The Cary Film Festival, Zombiepalooza, and special programs at The Cary. This role encompasses both behind-the-scenes and on-site responsibilities, aligning with the team's overarching goal of delivering and promoting fun and engaging experiences that enhance the Cary Community.
The Cary’s Program Assistant actively contributes to operational success by generating innovative event concepts, managing web content, creating social media content, managing vendor communications, preparing event materials, coordinating signage needs, and providing on-site support during festivals and events.
Work will require a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
- Collaborate with The Cary’s programming team to brainstorm, plan, and develop new event concepts and ideas.
- Research topics to stay updated on industry trends and assist with writing engaging content for web, social media, and other outlets.
- Manage social media content and promotion for The Cary’s film and live performance programs, workshops, and festivals.
- Monitor audience engagement and analyze content performance.
- Manage social media schedule, including year-round event promotion and sponsorship deliverables.
- Assist in the implementation of marketing plans for major festivals and special events.
- Prepare event materials, including signage, marketing collateral, and sponsor packets.
- Provide on-site support during festivals and special events, ensuring smooth operations and addressing any issues that may arise.
- Conduct post-event evaluations to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with team members, vendors, and the public.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with event management, communication, and creative software is a plus (Airtable, Canva, CapCut, Hive, Salesforce).
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support event schedules.
- Ability to acquire knowledge of policies, procedures and services of the division and department.
Education and Experience
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree with coursework in Social Media, Communication, Marketing, Event Management, or a related field.
Requires a minimum of 2 years of experience with hands-on social media content creation.
Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:
- Some experience with photography.
- Some experience with TikTok (or a similar platform) content creation.
Physical Requirements
Work in this class requires an employee to be able to hear and talk in order to communicate with the public and with groups under instruction. An employee must be able to climb, walk unassisted and move about freely in order to interact with patrons. Requires the ability to lift moderately heavy items (up to 25 lbs.) Visual acuity is needed to read typewritten and handwritten materials and to view a computer terminal. Work in this class is primarily clerical and may require sitting and use of a computer for extended time periods.
Special Requirements
Requires possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
