Cary's Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources team is seeking a highly organized and enthusiastic Program Assistant II to support Sports Programs. This position will assist Sports staff in sports league and event implementation, project development, and administrative duties, playing a critical role in providing high-quality sports leagues and programs for the community.
This position requires a flexible schedule with daytime availability, and some weekends and evenings as needed.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
- Assist with planning and implementation of youth and adult sports leagues, including volunteer recruitment, registration management, scheduling practices and games, conducting tryouts, and organizing league drafts.
- Support sports league management through tasks such as ordering and distributing uniforms, equipment, and awards; training and certifying volunteers; and facility reservation entry.
- Handle marketing responsibilities, including creating brochures, posters, flyers, and social media content.
- Maintain databases, performing data entry and processing.
- Perform general office duties.
- Engage in frequent telephone communication with the public.
- Assist with various aspects of sports programs and special events.
- Perform other job-related tasks as required.
- Knowledge of the rules, customs, and culture of baseball, softball, basketball, and volleyball, as well as a general understanding of other sports.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to complete tasks accurately and meet established deadlines.
- General knowledge of standard office practices and procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with coworkers and the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Ability to be a self-starter and work independently
- Knowledge and competency, or ability to learn, in Salesforce, Office, and Google platforms
- Ability to lift moderately heavy items and move freely in order to visit activity sites and handle equipment
- Ability to read and write handwritten and typewritten materials and view/use a computer terminal.
Education and Experience
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preference will be given to candidates who possess any of the following:
- Some coursework or equivalent experience in Recreation/Sport Management.
- Some experience planning and/or implementing sports leagues or programs.
Physical Requirements
Work requires the employee to lift moderately heavy to heavy items and move freely in order to visit activity sites and handle equipment. An employee must be able to hear and talk in order to communicate with the public and with groups under instruction. An employee must be able to climb, walk unassisted and move about freely. Visual acuity is needed to read typewritten and handwritten materials and to view a computer terminal.
Conditions of Employment
Requires possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
