Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plans workouts and coaches youth on competitive swimming during practices and meets
- Organizes relays for swim meets
- Directs Aides in working with participants
- Performs record keeping
- Communicate progress to parents
- May be required to perform emergency first aid and life-saving techniques
- Performs other duties as assigned or required
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: One-year previous coaching experience; some previous experience teaching or coaching children preferred
Licenses and/or Certifications Required:
- Must hold the following American Red Cross certifications: Water Safety Instructor (WSI), First Aid, CPR/Professional Rescuer, AED and Administering Emergency Oxygen
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Mountain High Swim League rules and regulations
- Ability to travel to meets
- Knowledge of and ability to physically demonstrate 4 competitive strokes, starts and turns
- Ability to effectively convey information to participants. Skill in instructing others and coaching participants to improved techniques and times
- Knowledge of and ability to physically perform various rescue techniques, life-saving procedures and water safety instruction
- Ability to communicate to children and adults effectively
- Ability and willingness to work as part of a team
- Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to coaching
- Ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership
Physical Demands:
- Ability to physically withstand extended periods of time in the pool and pool area
- Occasional physical work lifting no more than 10 pounds
- Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
- Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment
- Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information
- Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens
Work Environment:
- Exposure to temperature extremes, varying weather conditions, chemicals, water and other conditions found in the pool area
Equipment Used:
- This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check prior to commencing employment.
