Camp Coordinator – Summer Day Camp 
PAY: $17.85 per hour
Spend the summer as a role model, developing positive relationships with youth in our community. Play, dance, swim, craft, and more, as you help campers develop new skills and friendships.

What You’ll Do At Work
Lead! Supervise and support staff and volunteers to create an inclusive and meaningful camp experience. Provide positive and corrective feedback. 

Plan & Coordinate. Assist with the planning of activities, field trips, and special events. Coordinate and support in the implementation of activities, field trips, and special events. Adapt activities, field trips, and special events to support the inclusion of campers with special needs. Complete and submit reports.

Lead by ExampleManage campers and their behavior, lead games and activities, promote skill development, creativity, and exploration. Assist campers with special needs, make adaptations to games and activities for inclusive play. 

Communicate. Develop relationships with staff, parents, and campers; be empathic, build trust, and display patience. Mediate and resolve conflicts and behaviors.  

R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Learn, serve, and work together to build a community where people thrive by upholding the Town’s values, RESPONSIBILITY, EQUITY, SAFETY, PROFESSIONALISM, ETHICS, COMMUNICATION, and TEAMWORK.

Attend to injuriesProvide first aid. Complete and submit reports. Inventory and restock supplies. Perform C.P.R. and utilize A.E.D.

Learn and Grow. Attend and participate in staff orientation and trainings. Lead and participate staff meetings and teambuilding. Give and receive feedback. Provide input. 

Participate! Actively engage while supervising campers. Encourage and invite participation, set an example for positive and inclusive play. Splash in the pool, build LEGOS, play board games, make slime, race to the finish line, and more! 

Support Camp. Set up, break down, and maintain supplies and equipment. Clean and maintain safe spaces. Distribute lunch and snack. Drive a 15-passenger van of campers and staff. Administer medication. Be flexible and adapt to changes; assist and support where needed.   

Where You’ll Work
You’ll be working both indoors and outdoors, at and in recreation centers, schools, parks, playgrounds, trails, and swimming pools. You’ll travel in Town vehicles to offsite locations for field trips. Camps run during summertime, and you may experience hot temperatures and inclement weather.      

When You’ll Work
You’ll be required to attend up to 40 hours of orientation and trainings which will take place between June 9 and June 22, 2025.

June 23 – August 22, 2025: you’ll work anywhere between 30 and 40 hours per week, Monday through Fridays between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Some rare evening and weekend work may be required. 

The Town celebrates Juneteenth on Thursday, June 19, 2025, and Independence Day on Friday, July 4, 2025. There will be no camp, and staff will have these days off!

  • Access to Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation facilities: Chapel Hill Community Center, Nate Davis Sr. Gym, and the Homestead Aquatics Centers; includes Basketball, Volleyball, Pickleball, Rock Climbing, and Swimming during drop-in hours.

You Should Apply if You (minimum requirements)
  • Are 21 years of age or older. 
  • Possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Have at least one or more year(s) experience working with youth in a summer camp or similar setting.   
  • Want to discover new things and work to overcome challenges.  
  • Want to get paid while having FUN!  
Preference to those that apply who
  • Speak well enough to effectively communicate with campers and/or their parents in Burmese, Karen, Spanish and/or Mandarin.
  • Have experience working with children on the autism spectrum, with Down Syndrome, or with other developmental disabilities.
 
Supplemental Information
This classification has been designated as Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.   
Work requires the ability to perform the physical duties of the job which includes lifting a minimum of 20 lbs.
