Anticipated vacancy as of March 1, 2025.The position performs a variety of professional and advanced technical in support of computerized traffic signal systems and to provide technical support to traffic engineering staff and field operations crews. The systems include 137 traffic signals, 31 traffic cameras, 10 variable message signs, and 36 miles of fiber optic lines.This classification has been designated as Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Maintains and operates the traffic signal system and ensures proper traffic flow throughout the town. Develops, implements, and fine tunes signal timing plans; manages graphics, monitors databases, and performs preventive maintenance on the central signal system server equipment.Analyzes traffic data and computer traffic parameters.Performs and coordinates troubleshooting and repair of the computerized traffic signal system failures with technical maintenance and contractor staff.Analyzes traffic data, including traffic volume.Implements signal timing plans for special events, updates Variable Message Signs, and monitors cameras in the Traffic Management Center including during special events and inclement weather.Prepares and submits quarterly maintenance reports to NCDOT and the town, performs a variety of drafting duties using various GIS and computer software programs, sets and maintains system timing plan database and documentation.Prepares requisitions and uses software to track status of contracts, purchase orders, invoices and work orders; obtains crash reports and develops signal damage reports for the Office of Risk Management. Performs other duties as required. Supervision Exercised The work requires managing and monitoring work performed by team members and contractors. Physical Demands The work required intermittent standing or stooping. Work Environment The work is typically performed in an office, with occasional field responsibilities.
