What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Specialist position at Town of Christiansburg?
Passionate about environmental sustainability? The Town of Christiansburg is hiring an Environmental Specialist to help manage and improve our stormwater systems and environmental programs. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be working on the ground to support our MS4 Program and contribute to the community’s environmental health.
What You'll Do:
- Support MS4 Program implementation and field assessments of stormwater BMPs and outfalls
- Enter and review inspection data, ensuring QA/QC
- Update GIS stormwater data and communicate maintenance needs
- Investigate illicit discharges and maintain compliance documentation
- Assist with public education on stormwater pollution prevention
- Verify land conditions for stormwater utility fee accuracy
- Perform erosion and sediment control inspections as needed
- Stay updated on regulations and technologies; attend relevant training
- Process reports and coordinate data collection with GIS
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or 3 years of experience in a scientific field.
- Experience in environmental permitting, stormwater drainage and in GIS
- DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector certification and DEQ Storm Water Management Inspector certification or the ability to obtain within six months from date of hire.
