Job Summary:
The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for investigating complaints generated by Town residents and agencies regarding residential/commercial building, land use, zoning, businesses, and other property complaints. This position also monitors and enforces a variety of applicable ordinances, codes, and regulations related to zoning, land use, nuisance housing, building codes, health and safety, and other matters of public concern. Additionally, the officer serves as a resource and provides information on Town regulations to property owners, residents, businesses, and the general public.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities and all other duties as assigned:
· Receives, explains, and processes complaints and inquiries submitted by residents, Town Departments, and other outside agencies in person, by phone, in writing, or by email.
· Patrols areas in a Town vehicle to identify and evaluate problem areas and/or ordinance violations and determine proper methods of resolution.
· Research property ownership, land characteristics, occupancy status, and approved land uses utilizing internal and external data systems, internet resources and the County’s information system.
· Conducts field investigations, inspects properties for violations, attempts to make contact at the residence or business to resolve violations.
· Issues and posts warning notices, notices of violation, corrective notices, orders to comply and related documentation for code violations.
· Schedules and performs all follow-up functions to gain compliance, including letters, inspections, calls, meetings, discussions and negotiations to ensure compliance with appropriate codes and ordinances.
· Prepares a variety of written reports, memos, and correspondence related to enforcement activities.
· Processes and acquires data relative to complaints and enters information into the system.
· Participates in planning, coordinating, and executing demolitions, clean- up, and other abatement actions.
· Manages a case load requiring the ability to multi-task and manage time to meet routine deadlines.
· Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications, Education, and/or Experience:
· High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
· Minimum of one-year relevant code enforcement field experience; or similar enforcement experience in a private industry.
· Knowledge of basic data entry using an iPad.
· Valid driver’s license.
· Must possess or obtain Code Enforcement Officer Certification within one year of employment.

Physical Demands:
· Ability to lift or carry 30 pounds without an assistive device.

Work Environment:
· Environment: This job is conducted in both an office setting and outdoors. Must be able to work alone, travel from site to site, and be exposed to noise, dust, inclement weather conditions, and potentially hostile environments.

· Hours: Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (3 days per week at the stated hours above and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for a total of 28 hours per week)
