The Town of Clayton is seeking applicants for an IT Support Specialist for the Information Technology Department. The Town of Clayton employs more than 340 full-time staff in areas including police, fire, and electric utilities. The Town of Clayton also offers a range of PT positions including positions in Parks & Rec, Library, and Cultural Arts.

Duties & Responsibilities

Under general supervision of the Information Systems Director, the IT Support Specialist is responsible for the deployment, upkeep, support, and retirement of all town issued workstations, printers, telephone, mobile devices, and any other computer-based equipment. Provides user support for any problems, issues, or requests with any technological or communication systems. Installs, upgrades, supports, and troubleshoots physical network topology, basic network devices, and cabling. Works with Information Systems Director on a strategy for optimizing user's software environment and provides day-to-day training on all town applications.

  • Responds to requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, and electronically.
  • including some limited after-hour and / or weekend occasions.
  • Provides service diagnose and resolve technical hardware and software issues for end users via telephone, web portal, email, and chat to ensure courteous, timely, and effective resolution of end-user issues.
  • Configures and deploys user desktop / laptop computers, monitors, docking stations, VOIP telephones, printers, scanners, and A / V equipment.
  • Performs hands-on fixes at the desktop level when remote tools are not appropriate, including hardware repairs, delivery of peripherals, or other fixes as determined.
  • Perform the installation of IT equipment.
  • Assists with emergency repairs and non-emergency maintenance to the town network including ethernet wired network, internet connections, wireless network equipment, fiber optic network, and surveillance camera systems.
  • Provides AV support for meetings and events.
  • Logs all help desk interactions.
  • Provides excellent customer service to all members of the organization and community, serves as back up for the reception functions of Town Hall, including but not limited to, answering the main phone line, and directing calls, handling inquiries from citizens, accepting packages, assisting in the delivery of departmental mail, and more.
  • Supports various SharePoint sites.
  • Assists in the delivery of end user training, including the orientation of new employees and security awareness training.
  • Tracks problems and requests. Documents and logs resolutions.
  • Provides user training in both one-on-one and group environments.
  • Assist Information Services Staff to prevent issues, resolve outages and solve reoccurring problems.
  • Stays current with technology, system information, changes, and updates.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Special Requirements, Education & Experience

  • Working knowledge of fundamental operations of Windows 10 devices and Microsoft / Office 365, as well as printers, scanners, MFP devices.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative atmosphere and deliver excellent customer service and support to end users.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively explain systems and provide support to users with varying degrees of IT knowledge and experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn, implement and adapt to new systems.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Education :

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • A Certification preferred
  • Experience the minimum amount / type of experience necessary to perform the essential functions of the position :

  • A certification or two (2) years of direct, hands-on experience with installing, supporting, troubleshooting, and maintaining desktop systems.
  • Working knowledge of TCP / IP wired and wireless networking, ethernet and fiber optic cabling.
  • Working knowledge of various network equipment HP, Cisco, Fortinet, Juniper, Aruba, Ubiquity.
  • Experience with VMWare virtualized server environments, VOIP telephone systems, A / V equipment and other hardware.
  • Experience or working knowledge with any of the following : Windows Server, SQL Server, Windows OS, Linux, AV Software.
  • Experience or working knowledge with any of the following : GIS, Asset Management, Tyler Technologies, and Mitel.
