The Town of Clayton is seeking applicants for a Summer Camp Counselor for the Parks and Recreation Department. The Town of Clayton employs more than 340 full-time staff in areas including police, fire, and electric utilities. The purpose of this position is to provide supervision of summer camp participants, plan activities, and group management within a team setting.
• Provide a memorable and positive camp experience
• Model positive behavior and attitude for youth campers ages 6-12
• Actively support participants in recreation and leisure activities – arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor team sports, group games and activities
• Maintain clean and safe work and play areas
• Assist in daily check-in and check-out as needed
• Oversee snack and lunch time with participants
• Assist with special daily and weekly activities for participants
• Administer first aid and properly document each incident
• Identify unsafe situations and work hazards, correct them if possible and report them to the Recreation Program Coordinator
• Enforce program rules, resolve conflicts and document incidents if needed
• Carry out job duties in a safe manner in accordance with all Town policies; follow safety procedures
• Other related duties as assigned
Summer camp runs Monday-Friday 7:30 am-6:00 pm in June, July, and August. This position would be expected to work a minimum of 35 hours per week during the nine (9) weeks of camp and be available for pre-camp planning during May.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:
Individual in this position should possess a working knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation programming; knowledge of the policies and procedures of the Parks and Recreation Department and related state and local laws; possess the ability to observe and work with large groups of children; Individual should possess the ability apply and administer first-aid and CPR. Individual should possess the skill in customer service, group management, and emergency response.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Experience working with children ages 6 – 12 preferred.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Must be 16 years or older at the time of employment.

When a salary range is posted, the actual salary will be based on relevant competencies, knowledge, skills & abilities, internal equity and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.
