JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Clinton Tax Collector, this position performs technical and clerical duties in support of the functions of the Town of Clinton Tax Collector’s office. Work involves collecting taxes on motor vehicles, personal property and real estate. Position is also responsible for answering phones, receiving visitors, and providing general information to the public in a courteous and professional manner. This position requires a flexible work schedule with a weekly requirement of 15 hours and, during the months of July and January, 30 hours a week. Will perform other job-related duties as assigned.
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a timely manner; obtain, record, and disseminate accurate information from telephone conversations and personal contact; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; be detail orientated, and have strong communication, interpersonal, problem solving, analytical, organizational, conflict resolution, and stress tolerance skills; Understand and follow verbal and written instructions; properly interpret, understand and make decisions in accordance with laws, regulations, state statutes and policies; conduct business with the public in a professional, courteous manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Process tax payments and maintain accurate financial records.
Provide excellent customer service to taxpayers in person and over the phone.
Utilize Microsoft Word, Windows 365 and Excel for data entry, reporting, and record-keeping.
Perform basic accounting and bookkeeping tasks.
Handle cashier duties with accuracy and efficiency.
Assist with other administrative and clerical tasks as needed.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives supervision from the Clinton Tax Collector or other supervisory staff as directed;
Exercises no supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS:
3-5 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or cashier roles.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Windows 365 and Excel, with strong overall computer skills.
Ability to learn new software and processes quickly.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial transactions.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
Must be bondable.
Must have a high school diploma and current driver’s license.
COMPENSATION:
$ 18.39 Hourly Rate
