What's The Job?
Working as an Engineering Inspector, you can expect to inspect new subdivision construction and Town construction work for developing and improving roads, bridges, drainage structures, and traffic control devices; conduct required testing of water and sewer lines; inspect line and grade of sewer and storm pipes. You will also inspect the Town’s Capital Improvement Projects for compliance to contract documents; review pay requests, shop drawings, construction schedules and attend all meetings associated with the project. You will inspect streets for proper compliance with plans and specifications, i.e. materials, grade, compaction tests, etc.; check curbs and gutters for proper drainage and defects; perform tests on materials for quality, strength, compaction, and other related criteria. You will make written and verbal reports on inspections to supervisor and complete daily inspection reports and advise contractors on Town construction standards and specifications. You will perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
Here is what you must have to be considered for the position of Engineering Inspector:
- Associate’s Degree with major course work in heavy construction, civil engineering, construction inspection, construction management or a related field;
- Supplemented by five (5) years’ experience and/or training as a Construction Inspector, Foreman, or a Superintendent; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Requires a valid motor vehicle operator’s license
