Job Title: Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Worker

This is an hourly paid position which requires a high degree of skill in managing grounds maintenance priorities. This individual must be self-motivated with the experience and skill in operating and maintaining light weight equipment and constant attention to safety of operation in order to prevent accidents. Work assignments are made by the Road Commissioner.

Typical Duties –

· Performs duties as grounds keeper and reports back to the Road Commissioner of the Cemetery mowing progress and other projects as assigned.

· Performs extensive spring/fall cleaning of all municipal buildings grounds and cemeteries.

· Operates sidewalk machine during snow removal operations.

· Assists public works, utilizing the ton truck in plowing, sanding and snow removal on town-owned lots.

· Assists public works in snow removal of Water District hydrants and building sidewalks.

· Performs a variety of light manual work in connection with the maintenance of sidewalks, parks, and Municipal Bldgs.

· Picks up debris such as blow-downs; straightens signs and posts; picks up leaves, brush and other trash.

· May operate other light equipment as needed and may operate heavier equipment such as front-end loader on an incidental or emergency basis.

· Assists in general repair and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment and assists in general maintenance of the Public Works Garage.

· Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time under adverse climatic conditions.

· Other duties as assigned by the Road Commissioner

Requirements of Work –

Good working knowledge of safety precautions; skill in operation of light motor equipment, mowing/snow blowing equipment and cleaning equipment; willingness to perform preventative maintenance on minor equipment; stamina; ability to understand written and oral instruction; dependability and good physical condition.

Possession of a valid motor vehicle license issued by the State of Maine, which is subject to all State laws and municipal policies enacted, in effect and as amended.

Experience and Training –

Considerable experience in the operation of zero-turn mower, leaf blower, weed trimmer, and chainsaw. Completion of a standard high school course supplemented by experience in the operation of minor equipment or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary requirements of work.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
