What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utilities Maintenance Mechanic position at Town of Davie?
This is an industrial level maintenance work in the Utilities Department. Under general supervision, performs specialized and skilled electrical, mechanical, electromechanical and technical work in the maintenance and repair of machinery, pumps, motors and related equipment in the water and wastewater treatment plants, lift stations and Utilities facilities. May supervise lift station, field, or plant personnel who perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in servicing and maintaining equipment and machinery. Reports to Utilities Maintenance Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of mechanical and electromechanical machinery and equipment within Utilities Department facilities.
- Supervises, instructs, and inspects work of assigned maintenance personnel to ensure proper performance of work and repairs.
- Performs preventative maintenance and repairs for departmental facilities, machinery, and equipment.
- Keeps records of preventative maintenance schedules.
- Lubricates equipment and diagnose for malfunctions.
- Reviews blueprints and engineering specifications to locate sewer lines, water mains, and other associated fixtures.
- Replaces packing and valves.
- Replaces bearings in motors, pumps, and other equipment.
- Cleans pumps and bar screens and performs other plumbing tasks.
- Orders tools and supplies necessary to perform work.
- Keeps maintenance records and submits work reports.
- Trains new employees.
- Performs related work as required.
- Performs clean-up work after repairs are completed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Graduation from High School supplemented by vocational courses in mechanical and or electrical.
Three (3) to five (5) years of industrial level experience in electrical and mechanical equipment installation, maintenance and repair, preferably in a water or wastewater system environment, some supervisory experience preferred.
Currently possess or, the ability to complete within four (4) years a Class "C" Water or Wastewater treatment license from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection is required.
Currently possess or, the ability to complete within one (1) year a valid Class "B" CDL Florida driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements as issued by the State of Florida and an acceptable driving history.
Special Requirements
Current possession of the above named licenses is preferred.

- $1000 - paid out in June 2025 (prorated based on hire date)

- Holidays – 13 days per year.
- Sick Leave – 3.69 hours accrued per pay period
- Vacation Leave – Accrue 2 weeks per year, accrual rate increases every 5 years (capped at 4 weeks after 10 years of service).
- Birthday Leave – 1 day per year after successfully passing probation
- Quality Service – 1 day per year after successfully passing probation and other conditions.
- Wellness Days – 2 days per year after successfully passing probation.
- Pension/Retirement:
- Town Sponsored Pension – mandatory 3% contributions per pay period.
- 457 Deferred Compensation Plan- Employee is entitled to make voluntary contributions through the payroll to the Town sponsored 457 deferred compensation plan only.
- Uniforms: Provided by the Department.
Salary : $55,328 - $65,770
