Qualified applicants sought for the full-time (40 hours) position of Heavy Equipment Operator for the Highway / Grounds Division. Work includes the maintenance and cleanliness of municipal streets and roadways, operating heavy trucks and machinery, performing a variety of operation, maintenance, repair duties, and snow and ice removal.
Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and capable of organized independent effort. Must be available to respond to emergencies during evenings, weekend, and holidays, including but not limited to plowing and sanding operations. May include weekend work hours.
Must be able to work in a team environment in a safe and efficient manner. Ability to multi-task and manage conflict. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain good public relations and to maintain effective collaborative working relationships with Town departments, department heads, fellow employees, officials, and the general public, and to respond in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently. Ability to follow directions. Ability to operate specialized equipment such as trucks, trailers, backhoes, and loaders in a safe and effective manner. Ability to carry out essential functions under hazardous or inclement weather conditions in a safe manner. Ability to read and interpret project drawings, blueprints and maps. Ability to operate light and heavy motor equipment.
High School Diploma or equivalency, valid Massachusetts CDL Class B, valid Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License with a minimum 2A endorsement and experience operating heavy equipment required. DOT physical and self-certified with MASS RMV for interstate operation, required at time of hire.
Minimum Hourly Wage : $26.86 (MLDC Grade 14 / Step 1), plus eligible stipends, with comprehensive benefit package.
