The Buildings and Grounds Division of the East Fishkill Highway Department is seeking one Full-time Laborer.

The work involves responsibility for the performance of general laboring or construction tasks, which requires physical endurance and a willingness to perform arduous tasks at times in inclement weather. The incumbent generally uses hand and power tools to perform the work but may occasionally operate automotive equipment under close supervision of a qualified operator. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a working supervisor or a similar title.

This position is subject to random drug testing.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Performs a variety of manual labor tasks; loads and unloads trucks; cuts grass, weed trimming, trims shrubs and trees, rakes leaves, cuts brush; maintains playing fields; maintaining parks, including trash and litter removal, cleaning of restrooms, mulching; assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of sidewalks or other projects by shoveling, laying forms and pouring cement; assists in soil and rock excavation; assists with tree planting; may assist in painting facilities; may assist in the maintenance and repair of buildings; snow plowing and shoveling; may operate motor equipment in the performance of duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates being considered for employment will be subject to a pre-employment background check and drug test.

Ability to perform routine physical work; ability to lift heavy weights; ability to follow oral instructions; willingness to work under all weather conditions; sobriety; physical endurance; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

NOTE: A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment. Minimum age of 18 years required to operate necessary town equipment and vehicles.

SALARY: Entry rate is $20.56/hour.
