Principal Planner
Town of East Hampton-Principal Planner in the Planning Department- $81,592.37 annually for a 40-hour work week
The Planning Department assists with the implementation of the codes, programs and policies related to long range plans including land use, zoning, major infrastructure projects, climate adaptation and sustainability, and provides the Town Board and Planning Board with analysis, support and recommendations.
Additionally, the Planning Department notifies the public of land development applications, reviews and decisions, and demonstrating excellent service, technical knowledge and professionalism when assisting project applicants, constituents and members of the public.
The Principal Planner is responsible for coordinating and developing programs for the Planning Department. This employee must possess the ability to communicate planning determinations to a supervisor, Town Board, applicants and constituents. The Principal Planner will receive supervision from an administrative supervisor, but is expected to work independently and use initiative and judgment in carrying out the work.
Responsibilities And Duties
Minimum Qualifications are graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Political Science, Economics, Geography, Environmental Studies, Civil Engineering, or a related field, and four (4) years of experience in the field of community or regional planning; or, graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree, and five (5) years of experience in community or regional planning.
NOTE: Additional relevant graduate level education from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years.

Responsibilities And Duties
- This position will supervise and oversee the work of the Planners and Senior Planners who administer the day-to-day operations of the department including review of current applications, programs and planning assignments
- In particular, the position will focus on management of the three review Boards (Planning Board, Architectural Review Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals) and the clerical and technical staff that supports their work
- This position will also be responsible for helping review and make recommendations for the updating of codes that govern the review Boards
- Designs projects as directed by the department head; follows up on all plans, reports, and guidelines to produce the finished project
- Analyzes data, prepares technical reports and presents these reports at Board meetings
- The position will report to the Planning Director
- Related duties as required
