POSITION DEFINITION

The Town of East Hartford is seeking enthusiastic and responsible camp counselors to join our team this summer and create a fun, safe, and memorable experience for our campers.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Key Responsibilities :

Lead and supervise campers in daily activities, including sports, arts and crafts, games, and special events.

Plan and implement engaging and age-appropriate activities and programs.

Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers by maintaining a safe environment and adhering to camp policies.

Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages camper participation and growth.

Serve as a positive role model and mentor for campers, demonstrating respect, responsibility, and enthusiasm.

Manage camper behavior, addressing conflicts and issues with patience and good judgment.

Assist with the setup and cleanup of camp activities and events.

Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff members.

Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.

Follow all camp policies and procedures, including health and safety guidelines.

Arrive on time, prepared for work, and arrange approved substitutes if unable to work scheduled shifts.

Report incidents, accidents, hazards, emergencies, and injuries to supervisors, and complete appropriate paperwork.

Perform additional responsibilities as directed by supervisors

Previous experience working with children in a camp or recreational setting is preferred.

Ability to work well in a team and build positive relationships with campers and staff.

Creativity, enthusiasm, and a passion for working with children.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Understanding of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Parks and Recreation Department.

Decision-making skills following established policies and procedures.

Effective working relationships with Town staff, volunteers, sponsors, and the public.

Firm, tactful, and impartial enforcement of rules and regulations.

Alertness and ability to maintain a safe environment.

Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle emergencies calmly and effectively.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND LICENSING

Must be at least 16 years old or older.

Previous experience working with children in a camp or recreational setting is preferred.

Current CPR and First Aid certification is recommended.
