Camp Counselor

The Town of East Hartford is seeking enthusiastic and responsible camp counselors to join our team this summer and create a fun, safe, and memorable experience for our campers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and supervise campers in daily activities, including sports, arts and crafts, games, and special events.
• Plan and implement engaging and age-appropriate activities and programs.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers by maintaining a safe environment and adhering to camp policies.
• Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages camper participation and growth.
• Serve as a positive role model and mentor for campers, demonstrating respect, responsibility, and enthusiasm.
• Manage camper behavior, addressing conflicts and issues with patience and good judgment.
• Assist with the setup and cleanup of camp activities and events.
• Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff members.
• Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
• Follow all camp policies and procedures, including health and safety guidelines.
• Arrive on time, prepared for work, and arrange approved substitutes if unable to work scheduled shifts.
• Report incidents, accidents, hazards, emergencies, and injuries to supervisors, and complete appropriate paperwork.
• Perform additional responsibilities as directed by supervisors
• Previous experience working with children in a camp or recreational setting is preferred.
• Ability to work well in a team and build positive relationships with campers and staff.
• Creativity, enthusiasm, and a passion for working with children.

• Understanding of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Parks and Recreation Department.
• Decision-making skills following established policies and procedures.
• Effective working relationships with Town staff, volunteers, sponsors, and the public.
• Firm, tactful, and impartial enforcement of rules and regulations.
• Alertness and ability to maintain a safe environment.
• Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle emergencies calmly and effectively.

• Must be at least 16 years old or older. 
• Previous experience working with children in a camp or recreational setting is preferred.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification is recommended.
