What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Animal Control Officer position at Town of East Haven?
The Town of East Haven is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Animal Control Officer. Qualified candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of experience in an animal control department. Experience in managerial/supervisor role is preferred. Considerable Knowledge of animal handling, especially dogs, and of safety practices in handling domestic and wild animals; considerable knowledge of effective methods of controlling and containment of such animals. Ability to effectively communicate in person and written correspondence. Some experience working with wild animals, ability to work with local veterinarians and vendors. Must have knowledge of animal control and care techniques; knowledge of state statutes and Town ordinances relating to dogs and dog control; ability to write simple reports; ability to deal with the public,colleagues and Town Officials in a courteous manner but vary ones' technique as the situation demands; ability to make routine decisions involving choice of action to be taken within prescribed standard police practices. Basic Computer Skills. Must possess a class 3 Connecticut driver’s license and be able to obtain a pistol permit. Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check, physical and drug screening is required. Candidates’ bilingual in Spanish are encouraged to apply.
