Let’s play! Are you willing to learn the rules and keep score for a variety of recreation sports leagues? Officiating duties primarily include youth sports programs including but not limited to baseball, softball, soccer, flag football, volleyball, and basketball. Remaining composed and making sound judgement under pressure are necessary qualifications for this position. 

 

No prior experience as a player is required, just a working knowledge of each sport and the officiating/scorekeeper procedures is all you’ll need.      Hiring Range      

     $19.83/hr - $22.31/hr      

     Full Range      

     $19.83/hr - $24.79/hr 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Officiating Duties 

  • Officiate primarily youth sports programs including but not limited to baseball, softball, soccer, flag football, volleyball, and basketball. Opportunity to officiate adult sports programs may be offered dependent upon experience and comfortability. 
  • May serve as a scorekeeper for youth or adult sports programs. 
  • May train other officials or scorekeepers in program area related duties. 
  • Provides direct supervision as an official or scorekeeper for assigned games. 
  • Maintains work area, facilities, equipment, and reports. Set up, tear down of game-related equipment required. 
  • Enforces Department rules and policies with staff and guests. 
  • May provide some instruction during games to participants, coaches, or spectators. 
  • Provides exceptional guest service to all guests. Responds to information requests, comments and complaints from the public. 

Administrative Duties 

  • Evaluates program effectiveness and recommends new rules or techniques. 
  • Maintains frequent communication with staff within the Community Center and Division and reports any issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies and incidents to supervisory staff as needed. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, and Town staff. Including the ability to follow directions and demonstrate professional behavior. 
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings. 

Other/Miscellaneous 

  • Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and guests. 
  • Remains composed and makes sound judgments in any emergency or non-emergency situation. Responds to emergency situations, administers first aid, CPR or other medical attention as needed, completes incident reports. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Must be a minimum of 14 years of age  

 

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS 

  • Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid and AED certification within three months of employment

  • Motor Vehicle Report through DMV (exempt if under 16 years of age)    

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED: 

Knowledge of: To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate exceptional leadership and communication skills and must possess knowledge of the principles, practices, trends and methods of recreational sports operations and programming in a community setting. Knowledge of guidelines and regulations related to Department, Town, County, State, and Federal policies and procedures also required. 

Skills in: Initiative and decision-making; verbal and written communication; supervision, leadership, and interpersonal relationships; basic financial methods of recreational programming; outstanding customer service to a diverse population; administrative functions; time management, meeting deadlines, responding to internal and external requests in a timely manner; the use of standard office equipment, computers, and various software programs; positive and professional working relationships with all Town staff and the community; conflict resolution; handling controversial issues; comprehending instruction, correspondence, and policies and procedures; problem solving; remaining composed in emergency situations and working effectively under stressful circumstances; performing CPR, First Aid, and AED to level of certification. 

Environmental Factors: 

Work is performed inside or outside a standard recreational facility environment. Work may involve competing demands, and performing multiple tasks. 

Physical Factors: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and occasionally lift storage boxes and sports equipment of 20lbs or more.
