The Apprentice Lineworker performs skilled, semi-skilled and technical work in the installation and servicing of electric power delivery lines and related equipment. As an apprentice, participates in all training activities and performs work under relatively close supervision. It is expected that Apprentice Lineworkers will advance through the four year apprentice program and successfully master all skills and training. Upon successful completion of the apprentice program, the employee is expected to become a Journey Lineworker.The below list is intended to be illustrative of the responsibilities of the position and not all encompassing. The Town may change these duties at any time.
- Receives training in the following: pole climbing and construction; installation of underground cable and terminations; proper use of personal protective equipment; safe work practice, including CPR, pole top and bucket rescue, and defensive driving; proper handling of hazardous material; and construction standards and safety codes.
- Climbs power poles or operates and works from bucket truck to perform work tasks related to the installation and maintenance of electric power lines and equipment.
- Drives and operates boom and bucket truck.
- Operates a variety of power and hand tools and mechanized equipment to carry out assigned duties.
- Connects new electric service (overhead and underground) to customer facilities.
- Assists groundworkers in the framing and setting of new power poles and strings wire.
- Trims trees and branches which interfere with power lines, using appropriate tools.
- Patrols lines, performs voltage checks, inspects electrical equipment and troubleshoots electrical problems on the department's delivery system.
- Attends safety meetings.
- Identifies location of Department's underground facilities for contractors and other utilities.
- Installs protective equipment on power poles.
- Installs or supervises installation of new transformers on power poles, including primary and secondary, single and three phase transformer connections.
- Performs distribution system switching operations.
- Is responsible for workmanship and safe work practices.
- Keeps truck stocked, cleaned and properly maintained.
- May answer on-site customer and general public inquiries regarding electric power services or refers inquirer to appropriate department representative.
- May perform ground worker duties where additional line support services are needed.
- Performs other related work as required or assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Must have completed Line school;
- or must have a minimum of two (2) years of on-the-job training as a Groundworker, Line Equipment Specialist or similar work experience and have completed the first two books of the Apprenticeship program.

GRADE:
LW 90 - pay point $79585 annual equivalent
to LW 97 pay point $103,461 annual equivalent
Each step of the Apprenticeship Program has a set pay point.
Placement within Lineworker Apprentice step program will be based on experience. Our ideal candidate will have completed Line School and have some on the job experience. We are looking for a team member who will come in ready to learn through our Apprenticeship Program and contribute to our team.

- Working knowledge of the basics of electricity.
- Working knowledge of construction standards and practices, codes and equipment used in the delivery of electric power.

- Ability to read and interpret maps and electrical drawings.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods of time in all types of weather, including:
- Walking and climbing 8 to 10 hours a day, four or five days a week in areas containing various topographical conditions;
- Climbing and operating tools on power poles;
- Lifting, carrying, and loading/unloading heavy items and materials;
- Hand-digging in excavation/backfill work using shovels, picks, and rakes;
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, employees and the general public.
- Must be able to work an on-call work schedule and be able to respond to emergency situations per departmental policy.
Salary : $79,585 - $103,461
