The Town is currently recruiting for Community Service Officers for the 2025 Summer Season! This position runs approximately May - September.
This position is open until filled with first review on 02/21/25 and applications being reviewed approximately weekly thereafter.
Assists in public safety and wellbeing, regulates traffic flow, movement of pedestrians, parking enforcement. Performs foot patrol, is an ambassador for the Town and the Police Department. Assist patrol officers, records and dispatch as directed. This is a seasonal position
The below list is intended to be illustrative of the responsibilities of the position and not all encompassing. Duties are performed on a rotating shift basis. The Town may change these duties at any time.
- Works under supervision of Patrol Sergeant or as delegated by Operations Commander.
- Downtown business district foot patrol.
- Be available to the public to assist them with directions and general information to help facilitate a positive experience as a guest in our community.
- Directs motorized traffic and pedestrian traffic. Assists with special events.
- Enforces local Town ordinances on parking.
- Responds to calls for service including emergency situations.
- Enforces parking laws and promotes traffic safety.
- Detects criminal activities by surveillance of assigned business areas.
- Promotes crime prevention by initiating contact with businesses and residents including explaining applicable laws, soliciting cooperation in crime reporting, and otherwise creating good rapport with citizens.
- Assists at crime scenes or accidents; protects evidence.
- Operates police department vehicles under non-emergency conditions.
- Prepares a variety of reports and logs.
- Prepares and provides testimony in court and works with prosecution attorneys.
- Provides code enforcement and animal control activities as needed.
- Organizes and conducts a variety community oriented policing activities; attends community functions and meetings for the purpose of public relations.
- Conducts Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) checks.
- Conducts Portable Breath Test (PBT) checks for non-suspect citizens.
- Obtains fingerprints from citizens needing them for employment background checks.
- Collects and processes lost and found property and reports.
- Performs other related work as required or assigned.
- For Community Service Officer:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
- Knowledge of local geography and services available to our guests.
- Knowledge of police principles and practices.
- Knowledge of applicable Town ordinances.
- Knowledge of Town and Department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of emergency medical and first aid practices.
- Knowledge of Police Dynamics and Character First principles.
- Skill in operating motor vehicles in hazardous situations.
- Skill in using less-lethal weapons and other police equipment.
- Ability to collect and preserve evidence as directed by an officer.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to communicate with victims, witnesses and police officers.
- Ability to demonstrate responsibility by remaining on post for extended period of time in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to act effectively in crisis situations and to deal tactfully with citizens in a wide variety of situations, some stressful.
- Ability to exhibit imagination, initiative and discernment in problem-solving when coping with a variety of situations.
- Ability to act and react to emergency and/or threatening situations; ability to protect oneself in threatening situations.
- Ability to act as a positive role model for the department.
- Ability to observe situations and prepare written reports.
- Ability to make oral presentations and communicate using a radio.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have dependable transportation.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays.

Report To: Sergeant or Master Police Officer
Pay Grade: Seas 3
Residency requirement: Yes. Must reside within 60 minute travel time of the Police Department (170 MacGragor Ave) as verified by google maps.
Background Check: Yes. Incumbents must successfully pass a CBI background investigation, have no felony convictions or misdemeanor violent crime offenses, and possess a valid drivers licensee with a clear driving record.
